Our Way Forward

The South is going to need an alternative focus, moving forward from here. Sharing great ideas & strategies to make them happen will be a significant part of our community shift. We need an alternative focus, so Southern people can more easily develop what is best for the people.

We lack vibrant community services & activities. Our people are not sufficiently empowered to action their own own ideas.

  • Our city has potential to feel like a great place to live & visit.
  • We do attempt to run events and services for the well-being of community.

But the city does not feel fully alive. Many people, both locals & visitors say that they city lacks vibe, fun & activities. They say that we have wonderful local beauty, but it is hard to enjoy it, because the events & services on offer do not feel like they are run well. We lack innovative leaders.

What we need is to empower the community.

Value Decision Making

DEFINITION: Making plans, or mapping out ways of doing things that are based on perceived importance, or the preciousness and usefulness of something.

Be the solution, make ‘value decisions’ –

  • Plan with optimism
  • Get in behind ideas
  • Make them succeed.

Consider opportunities by looking at their usefulness, potential, and capacity to do good, or benefit to others.

Ask questions:
1. Is this loving?
2. Is this important?
3. Could it solve real needs?
4. Is this what is best for the people?
5. Is it truly sustainable?

Value decisions aim to look at an opportunity, situation, or plan of action with the best possible outcome in mind. It disregards traditional ways of doing things, perceived limitations, conservative thinking and pessimism – to look purely at the opportunity and see it’s potential.

The Power in You

Creativity is a process. In it we transform everything we touch – with the creation of new services & products. Every human has the power to create! Creating is one of our gifts to the world. So we should…

If we ever feel fear, we can respond with fun filled curiosity.
Let’s learn to visualise & design & action our ideas. To build a picture of what we want our relationships, community, homeland & world to look like.
Then action it!

+ Do not underestimate your own capacity.
+ Get in touch with your feelings.
+ Listen to your inner self.
+ Ask questions!
+ Develop solutions..

Let’s work together

About Stevey

Stevey Chernishov:
As a child I spent many thousands of hours tinkering – with a focus on understanding how the things work, & alternative ways to solve problems.
In the beginning, my attempts to create new solutions were engineering focused; as Dad had a rather large workshop full of tools, nuts & bolts, steel, mechanical machining gadgets, etc.

As time went on I felt inspired by the idea of research & inquiry; questioning & experimenting, design..
Building & finishing skateboards, bicycles, trolleys, & objects with creative flair turned into attempting to realise ideals, present ideas, or ideologies.
I became fascinated with visual communication, graphic design, formal drawing, modelling, computers, business & enterprise.

The mysterious journey really drew me in when teachers encouraged me to ask questions, investigate agendas, look into history & see possibilities with complete openness.
University studies pulled me in even further – not just to building understanding, or moving beyond mainstream thinking – but to take action, trial ideas & to find ways to truly impact our world for the better..

I am strongly convinced that Southern New Zealand is a setting for developing new solutions the whole world needs. Southland is the place where we can solve any problem.
So I am posting on here to encourage you to find your true identity & purpose [even among the cloudy busy life that others try to present].

I want you to believe that you are significant, & live like it. See yourself as God’s creative masterpiece. Then create. You can.

Strategic Plan

We need to unite together as people, moving in creativity with ‘positive action’. We must ground ourselves with hope & action visionary ideas. We will make far more out of our future by being visionary and creating solutions than letting a top town society shuffle us into pre-defined roles.

It is time to accelerate into a new movement, where people reach out to inspire each other on a local level; then do something together – with massive & locally empowering ideas in mind – no matter how humble the beginning is..

Strategic Discussion Points for the South:

Community engagement

01./ Southland Councils should embrace Community Education, moving beyond regulation & control to resourcing the public.

02./ Every identifiable part of the community, & individuals can develop because there are support systems to reward those taking positive action.

03./ Prioritise innovation; supporting the establishment of innovation hubs, community living environments, & local manufacturing.

Housing & planning

04./ Promote & establish non-regulatory services in the form of resources, support systems & advisors that can guide developments in all areas.

05./ Develop ways to solve our housing & debt crisis using small buildings, which anyone from any walk of life can own & live in.

06./ Challenge overly complicated legislation & controls, & look for ways to make changes in local government more understandable & accessible.

Jobs & economy

07./ Promote social enterprise, the development of technology & micro-manufacturing businesses.

08./ Build networks for accessing local resources; so products & services offered within own region will be accessible to people in the South.

09./ Creates pathways for thousands of new small buildings to be created in Southland, to be owned by Southlanders.

Recreation & culture

10./ Create well presented, clear, easy to follow resources & processes for starting up new enterprises, attractions & services.

11./ Build our local public image, & facilities that reflect our desired image – encouraging fun, exciting, & dynamic vibes.

12./ Promote the South as a unified natural outdoor & indoor adventure playground.

Transport

13./ We will design what Invercargill looks like in 50 years time, relationally, functionality, environmentally & aesthetically.

14./ Consult with communities to plan each suburb; where we have a medium – long term vision for how movement throughout the entire city works.

15./ We will travel towards building what is best for communities as a whole – any identifiable part of a community, and the individuals.

Utilities & services

16./ Use visionary thinking to identify how we want each centre to function, & the services required to build the vision.

17./ Evaluate the way drinking water is treated, & seek ‘alternative consultation’ on how to offer the healthiest possible drinking water.

18./ Work more closely with schools, companies & organisations to deliberately sort rubbish for innovative recycling & localised reuse

Democracy

19./ Use social anthropology research methods & technology to gauge public opinions & views – to best inform developments & actually represent.

20./ Present information & ideas back to the public; to ensure that meaningful two way engagement is taking place.

21./ Involve locals in consultation, development, & recommendations for development. Especially retired specialists with loyalty to the South.

Climate change & resilience

22./ Empower Southlanders to develop innovative, sustainable work & lifestyle practices.

23./ Increase each individual’s capacity to prepare for emergencies, including the storage of water, access to food & essential facilities.

24./ Build networks for accessing local resources; so products & services offered within own region will be accessible to people in the South.

Environment

25./ New waste management strategies to screen products brought into the region. e.g. Only buying bottles of one colour, to enhance re-usability.

26./ New waste management strategies to reuse waste locally, building relationships in community for micro-manufacturing using waste.

27./ Work with food growers in the region, empowering them to diversify their food product range & distribute portions locally.

Rates and revenue

28./ Thoroughly analyse infrastructure upgrade spending, including contractor rates.

29./ Look for ways to decrease debt incurred over recent years of development.

30./ Conduct research – searching for efficient methods of replacing aged Invercargill City water supply pipes, sewerage & storm water systems.

We are talking about a creative movement which brings people together in unity to actively solve local & global needs.
It disrupts misaligned social norms, markets, & mainstream ways by focusing on solving local and global issues.

Our movement in the South will bring new ways to do life and get jobs done. The mission is to come together to provide alternative ways of living. Key components in this are freedom and creativity. People need freedom to move, be inspired, and develop what they choose.

Being united in positive action is key! Creation can happen on any scale. Action in the creation movement spirit could be the power of two people working together in harmony, four people actively developing what they envisage..or an entire region uniting together for a cause!

What we will do

Together we will get creative, develop ideas, action & sustain them. We need to embrace integrity, traditional values, creative thinking, brilliant ideas. & rational economics. Of course – we will embrace the future, science, technology, & new ways of seeing.

In the South, we do what makes well grounded sense.

The next stage of our development needs to be a creative movement; involving design thinking, decision making, & collaborative action.
They start by uniting a group of people together who agree to solve an issue.
A creation movement can operate informally or through an established organisation. Each initiative starts by solving a need using the resources available. The movement first develops phase by phase within a community.

Stevey would like to see us planning our region’s finances more carefully, & refraining from large borrowings to undertake initiatives – with no real perspective on how this will affect future generations & short term living.

Believe this:

People of the South are in the process of creating a new movement. We have already recognised how our situation needs to be improved. We have identified problems & are fully capable of fixing them..

Action

CREATION is a movement that works when we do the following:

1. Inspire a group of people
2. Combine resources
3. Action

The opposite of a problem = the solution

To develop solutions we must be effective.
Together everyday people can build the new.

‘Moving in creativity’ is about organised efforts made by cooperative communities to bring new order and stability into society through positive action.
We need truly eco-friendly and sustainable ways forward.

A new movement is first sparked by visionary thoughts or dreams. It starts out with an extraordinary idea, which is then grounded by finding out how those bright thoughts serve a purpose in the world.
This is done by researching the efforts of existing initiatives, businesses, organisations, or community groups and offering alternative solutions.

New movements get momentum when they motivate groups of people to combine resources and actively create.
